Mondul Estate was founded in 1931, three decades after imperial forces from England and Germany started colonization. It was founded by an Italian, Count Vottorio Davico di Quittengo (Davico), who reportedly started his young career by working in commodities in Uganda. In Northern Tanzania, he surveyed the higher elevations of Mt. Mondul and asked his family in Italy for the money to purchase it.

Davico worked the farm until his death in the 1980s and is buried on the highest hill on the farm. Today, Mondul embraces its history but has moved progressively to advanced farming methods that create a sustainable environment: a dairy project supplying cows to staff, an

apiary, land leasing with agronomic training, and community investments like repairing water infrastructure, supporting clinics and providing school supplies.
