Indonesia is a coffee powerhouse and the fourth-most populous nation on Earth. But for Blue Tiger, we come to a sparsely populated part of the big island, Sumatra. Coffee has been produced here for generations, but access limits what growers can do technically.

Behind Sumatra Blue Tiger

These growers have weathered a host of supply chain challenges. Using the varieties that their ancestors tended, through training, farmers now discern between the quality of the fruit (beans inside) as it grows on the tree and harvest only at the exact moment of ripeness. This effort manifests in the cup, too: nougat, cedar, and peppercorn notes dominate.
